Grace Memorial Bridge
This cantilever bridge was the first to connect Charleston with Mt. Pleasant. Opened in 1929, drivers were charged fifty cents and passengers fifteen cents to cross the private toll bridge until the state of South Carolina bought it in 1946. Ironically, that same year a freighter slammed into it and rendered the bridge unusable until it was repaired. The bridge was dismantled in 2005.
